Board View (Kanban)

Board View turns a list into a Kanban board with colored, WIP-limited columns and drag-and-drop cards, grouped into swimlanes by priority or assignee.

Board View showing tasks as cards across custom status columns, with one column over its WIP limit shown in red.

Board View: custom statuses, WIP limits and drag-and-drop cards.

What it does

Board View turns a list into a Kanban board — one column per status, one card per task. Cards move between columns by dragging, and columns pick up whatever statuses the list already has, including any custom ones with their own name, color and WIP limit. Optional swimlanes split the board further by priority or assignee.

Who needs it

Teams that think in terms of workflow stages — To Do, In Progress, Review, Done — rather than a flat checklist. Anyone who wants to see the whole pipeline at once and spot where the bottleneck actually is, instead of scrolling a list top to bottom.

Why use it

An overloaded stage is visible at a glance, especially with a WIP limit set and its column count turning amber then red. Dragging a card from one column to the next is faster than opening a task and changing its status field by hand.

How it works

Board is one of six interchangeable lenses on the same tasks — the cards here are the exact rows you'd see in List or Table, just arranged by status instead of listed top to bottom. Switching tabs never moves or duplicates a task.

Columns: one per status on the list, in the list's status order, each with a colored dot matching the status color. Statuses are shared with every other view — renaming or recoloring a status here also changes it in List, Table and everywhere else it's used. A list's statuses can be its own custom set, or a live copy inherited from its parent Folder or Space so a whole Space's boards stay in sync, until a list is deliberately detached into its own independent statuses.

WIP limits: set a maximum on a status and its column header shows count/limit instead of a plain count — amber at the limit, red once it's exceeded — so an overloaded stage is visible without opening anything.

Swimlanes: the dropdown above the board splits it into horizontal lanes — No swimlanes (one board), Group by priority (a lane per priority level), or Group by assignee (a lane per person, plus an Unassigned lane) — while the column-per-status layout stays the same inside each lane.

Drag a card to another column to change its status, or drag it up and down within a column to set its manual order there. Each column header has its own + button to add a task straight into that status. A card shows the task name, a short description preview, up to three tags, a priority dot, the due date (in red once overdue) and up to three assignee avatars.
