What it does
Folders and Lists are the two levels of structure inside a Space: a Folder groups related Lists together, and every task lives in a List. The hierarchy stops at three levels — Space, Folder, List — Folders don't nest inside each other.
Who needs it
Anyone organizing more than a handful of Lists inside one Space, where a flat pile of Lists would get hard to scan, and teams that run sprint-based work and want it visually separated from ongoing Lists.
Why use it
A shallow, fixed hierarchy is easy to explain to a new teammate in one sentence, and hard to over-build into a maze — there's no fourth level to accidentally create.
How it works
Work sits three levels deep, and only three: Space > Folder > List. A Folder is optional — a List can live directly in a Space, or be grouped inside a Folder for a bigger initiative. Folders themselves don't nest, so you can't build sub-folders inside sub-folders.
Create either from the sidebar's "+ Create new" menu, or from a Space's own "+ List" / "+ Folder" buttons. Both use the same dialog:
- Name: required, up to 120 characters.
- Space (location): pick which Space the new List or Folder belongs to. When creating a List inside an existing Folder, that Folder is pre-selected; switching Space resets the target back to that Space's root.
- Make private: restricts this List or Folder to you and whoever you invite, independent of whether the parent Space is private.
The same dialog also creates Sprints — a Sprint List or Sprint Folder is functionally the same List or Folder, just created through the "Sprint" / "Sprint Folder" entries in the "+ Create new" menu, which marks it with a distinct running-shoe icon in the sidebar so sprint-based work stands out from the rest of the tree at a glance.
