Comments & Mentions

Threaded replies and @mentions that actually notify someone — comment discussion attached directly to a task or a doc page, not lost in chat.

A task's comment thread showing a top-level comment with an @mention highlighted, a reply nested underneath it, and the comment composer at the bottom.

Threaded replies and an @mention in a task's comment thread.

What it does

Comments attach discussion directly to a task or a doc page instead of a separate chat thread. Type @ to mention a teammate, write your comment in the same rich text editor used everywhere else in the app, and reply inline to any comment to keep a thread together.

Who needs it

Teams who want a decision or a question to live next to the work it's about, not buried three days back in a chat channel. Anyone who's mentioned someone in a tool before and had no idea whether it actually reached them.

Why use it

A mention here is a real notification, not a hope — the person you @mention gets an Inbox or Email notification and it shows up in their Replies tab. That's the difference between "I mentioned them" and "they saw it."

How it works

Comments live on tasks and on doc pages — a parallel thread with the same mechanics in both places. Write a comment in the rich text editor, type @ followed by a name to mention someone from the autocomplete list of workspace members, and submit.

Replies: click Reply under any top-level comment to open a reply editor beneath it. Replies are threaded one level deep under their parent comment.

@mentions notify: mentioning someone sends them a Mention notification, through whichever channels their notification settings have turned on for it — separate from a plain "someone commented" notification.

Replies notify too: replying to someone's comment sends them a reply notification, unless they were already notified by being @mentioned in the same reply. Both show up in the Inbox and in the dedicated Replies view, which filters down to just mentions and replies with Unread and Read tabs.

Edited comments are marked "(edited)" next to the timestamp so readers know the text has changed since it was posted.
